Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM)

The MAI membership designation is held by professionals who provide a wide range of services on all types of real property related to providing, opinions of value, evaluations, review, consulting and advice on investment decisions, among other things. Property types may include commercial, industrial, agricultural, residential, and vacant land. To become a MAI Designated member of the Appraisal Institute, an individual must:


  1. Have good moral character;
  2. Be a Certified General Real Property Appraiser (or meet equivalency)
  3. Hold bachelor's degree or higher (or be a Certified General Real Property Appraiser)
  4. Meet standards and ethics requirements;
  5. Pass rigorous education requirements;
  6. Pass a final comprehensive examination;
  7. Receive credit for specialized experience that meets strict criteria; and
  8. Receive credit for the demonstration of knowledge requirement.

These individuals have the necessary commercial property valuation experience and knowledge to produce a valuation that ensures confidence. The MAI designation has long been recognized by courts of law, government agencies, financial institutions, and investors as a mark of excellence in the field of real estate valuation and analysis.

 CCIM stands for Certified Commercial Investment Member. The CCIM denotes the member has completed advanced coursework in financial and market analysis, and demonstrated extensive experience in the commercial real estate industry. CCIM designees are recognized as leading experts in commercial investment real estate.Above all, the CCIM designation represents proven expertise in financial, market, and investment analysis, in addition to negotiation. Courses in these core competencies are taught by industry professionals, ensuring all material reflects the state of the industry. With this real-world education, CCIM designees are able to help their clients:
